  13. This version (1.4) of the Diablo Emulator for the Atari SLM line of laser 
  14. printers is compatible with the Atari TT and ST lines of personal computers.

  16. Enhancements
  17.  
  18. 1. Fonts may be loaded from any directory rather than from only the root of 
  19. the boot device.  SETUP630.PRG now has a provision for specifying the 
  20. directory path from which all fonts are to be loaded.
  21.  
  22. 2. The desk accessory for version 1.4 has more extensive search capabilities 
  23. and will find the emulator regardless of other terminate and stay resident 
  24. programs installed.  For those technically interested, the cookie jar is used 
  25. to facilitate this feature.

  27. 3. Version 1.4 has a provision for increasing (or decreasing) the size of the 
  28. page buffer and in determining the maximum buffer usage after N pages have 
  29. been printed. The page buffer must contain all text and graphics linkages for 
  30. one page before being printed.  This sizing is done to DIAB630.PRG by the 
  31. SETUP630.PRG program and becomes effective when the DIAB630.PRG so created 
  32. is run.  Once the emulator is installed in system memory however, the text 
  33. buffer cannot be re-sized.  When an overflow occurs, the full buffer partial 
  34. pages are printed, and an estimate of the buffer size requirements is 
  35. reported in the SETUP630.PRG under the buffer adjust menu item.  This 
  36. estimate may be used as a guideline to re-size the page buffer for a new 
  37. incarnation of DIAB630.PRG.  The system must be re-booted to remove the old 
  38. DIAB630.PRG before the new one is run.

  40. 4. The desk accessory now has two buttons marked "enable" and "disable" with 
  41. the current state selected.  When disabled, all printer output goes to the 
  42. parallel port as if the emulator was not installed.  Serial printers are not 
  43. affected by this case.

  45. 5. Applications which used fonts which filled the line to the physical 
  46. maximum (all 80 columns with text of TYPE10LS.FNT) will now fill a line 
  47. exactly up to the right margin.  In the above case, the document would 
  48. look double-spaced when single-spacing was desired.

  52. The latest version of the screen dump utility is SDUMP.PRG.
  53. New features include inverse printing capability by pressing ALT-SHIFT-HELP
  54. and the ability to do screen dumps of all resolutions of ST, STe and TT.
  55. SDUMP.PRG also checks the status of the printer so that there are no
  56. unanticipated hangs if the SLM is off line.

  60. SLM.SYS is the latest GDOS driver for the SLM and has extensions for
  61. developers to take advantage of.
